Pecan trees slow to leaf out?

I am concerned about my massive pecan tree - not for the nuts but for the shade it provides my hydrangeas and other shade plants. After the late freeze decimated it, I can only see sporadic places where it is leafing out. Other trees have started to leaf out, even the crape mrytles. Is the pecan tree just slower than others to recover from a late freeze?

Hopefully. I'm still waiting on the crepe myrtles, vitex, and figs to leaf out. Linda

Had it already started leafing out before the freeze? Pecan trees are the last ones to leaf out here. We didn't even get the hard freeze and mine are just now getting leafed out with catkins still hanging.

My neighbor's large pecan trees have just started leafing out in the past few days. My baby fig tree started budding up again about the same time. So I would be patient a while yet.

Join the club Phillip. I have 7 large ones and I can count the amount of green on each one with my fingers! I got hit real hard here also. From what I have read we will be OK but it will take some time for them to come back around.
