Southern Homes and Gardens has some stuff sold as compost and sold by the load. You might also try mushroom compost. Bubba's Materials in Prattville looks to have some pretty good stuff, but I have never dealt with them. They have cotton burr compost and I think mushroom compost as well as top soil. You have to be careful these days when buying top soil because people classify it differently and you may not be getting what you consider top soil, but a sandy loam.

How about some of that good bottomland soil along the Alabama River at the elevated portion of I-65 just north of Montgomery.;-) You know, where they have grown cotton for at least 30 years since I-65 was opened up from Prattville to Montgomery (1976?) but planted corn there this year. I was in Montgomery in mid-May for a funeral and I was stunned they had planted corn.
