alocasia flower

I've grown a couple of alocasia plants for a few years now (given to me

by Nelson & Terry), and this is the first year I've seen a flower thing on them.

i'm sure you may be used to them, but to me they are new and different...

not a run of the mill flower with pistils and stamens and all.

curious what y'all know about them

Hi, Todd. It is a spathe flower much like a Peace lily flower. Just as it begins to turn darker, give it a smell. It has a banana or kiwi smell. I have the portadora and it smells like a mango. Leave them alone and they will form seeds in the lower chamber. The seeds will ripen and pop open. When the seeds turn red-orange, pull them off and drop in the pot or cover them with a light coating of soil. They sprout too easy. Ciao - Terry

COOL - i have seen the flowers on a couple of mine - but never knew that about the smell.

I'm letting the blooms on the portadora go to seed. I'll plant them and maybe we can all have portadora.
