Garlic varieties for No. AL

Does anyone have some suggestions for recommended garlic varieties in the North Alabama area? I'd like to eventually standardize on two of them. One, a very flavorful variety for cooking without much fire, and two, a garlic with more bite for pickling and canning.

Nicole, I have grown a garlic for a number of years that makes a clump of smaller garlic cloves but grows somewhat like a leek of green onion. It has a strong garlic taste. It grows under almost any conditions. I thought I had removed it all but I found a stalk or two the other day which was growing with glory bower. It has a 'medium' bite to it which makes it a good, all around variety for cooking and pickling. Are you coming to the swap in September? I could bring it with me.

Thanks for the offer, but I will not be at the swap; it's too far for me.

It almost sounds like you have a bulbing leek? I'm deathly allergic to leeks and onions, so I probably wouldn't risk it, but it sounds like it may be a really good variety for someone who likes garlic scapes.
