Anyone growing Oleander 'cardinal red' in 7b - 8a?

A neighbor one block over in my subdivision has one of these in his yard that is approx five feet tall, and it has never shown any burn from winter cold (with no protection) during the past three years we've lived there. He says he bought it about five years ago at Magnolia Landscape Supply in Summerdale, AL & they told him it's the most cold hardy of all oleanders, although from what I see online it's still rated Zone 8 like most others. I found one last friday at Hanna's Nursery here in B'ham & I'm hoping mine turns out to be as hardy as his. Over the years I've bought several supposedly "cold hardy" oleanders, only to have them all freeze back to the ground. Just wondering if anyone else has had this variety & what your luck has been.

BTW, for those that don't know I now live down south of B'ham in Alabaster, which is borderline 7b/8a.
