| I have read a lot of postings regarding in ground fies and dormancy....In someone's informed opinion, can my in ground fig tree (LSU GOLD)survive the Birmingham AL winter without covering....with covering...at this point the second crop of figs has started and there are quite a few....Probably won't ripen, huh? |

| I don't grow that variety but it looks interesting. Description from Petals From The Past website: LSU Purple Fig "Ficus carica - Small to medium sized, purple skin with strawberry pulp. Flavor outstanding. Has better shelf life than most varieties. Well adapted to South. Has ability to fruit on new growth if top killed by winter freeze. Hardiness not established but probably hardy to 12 degrees when fully dormant (not as hardy as Celeste or Brown Turkey). Fruit does not split as badly following rains as other varieties." Oh, and they're very good people to do business with as well. |
