overwintering tender perennials

This is my first winter as a serious gardener in zone 7B, after 15 years in zone 9! I have several tender perennials in containers, especially Lantana and Pentas, that I do not want to lose completely. Neither do I have a greenhouse. I do have an unheated room to place them in.

Would they respond well to being cut off near ground level and stored in that room? I did that last year to Passiflora 'Blue Bouquet" and it did just fine.

Sounds like a good plan to me. I over-winter many tender perennials & tropicals in my dugout, un-heated basement with only fluorescent lighting. It's not a greenhouse, but it works, with only a minimal loss of life. Pay particular attention to not overwatering, keeping most everything on the dry side.

Can you open a door to let some heat in the room if it get really cold? Can you run a small electric heater if it get really cold? As long as you protect them from a hard freeze you should be OK.
