I Have Bananas - Question

I took Smokey out for this walk this morning. Ever since we encountered the little ground rattler last week I have been looking closely where we walk. I saw a red husk like material on the ground as we passed the banana tree and I instantly knew it had to be from a banana bloom. Yes, I have several (10-12) small bananas about 4-5 inches long and the bloom is nothing like "spent". I know this particular pseudostem was small last autumn and survived the mild winter, 'green' under the 2 feet of leaf mulch. QUESTION: I was told these are musa basjoo when they were given to me. Well, all of the pictures I see of basjoo show a green flower. My flower is maroon red, leaves are all green, pseudostems are green. Do I have basjoo or something else. My apologies to those of you to whom I have given pups and told you it was basjoo. Maybe you received an edible banana!
