Brugmansia questions

This is my first year growing Brugmansias. I received a bucket of cuttings last fall from Tony that I overwintered in my garage. I planted them outdoors in spring. They are about 5 feet tall and have a lot of buds on them. Only one has bloomed- a yellow trumpet with spidery projections from the petals-very beautiful. Can you ID this one for me, Tony/Deb? Will it overwinter outdoors in Birmingham?
Thanks,
Susan.

RE: Brugmansia questions

There is a good possibility the yellow may have originally come from me. If it did, it is a Charles Grimaldi. Was it very fragrant and did the end of the flower get draker as it aged? It is the hardiest brug I grow. Cut it off just before frost and cover with a bucket full of chopped leaves. Uncover about April 1.

Hey Susan,

It could also be Jean Pasco. Very beautiful.

Terry and Deb,
Thanks!
I think it looks more like Charles Grimaldi than Jean Pasco. The first flower hasn't faded yet so I don't know if it will darken. It is so beautiful!
Thanks to all of you for introducing me to such beautiful plants that I might not otherwise have tried. I am waiting for three other plants to bloom. They all have buds.

I have two that grew to about 5-6 feet tall and neither one bloomed! They are in large pots, watered and fertilized regularly and look very healthy.

Just no blooms. I've had others before that bloomed their hearts out! Do I need "opposite sex" attraction?

I too am VERY excited about my new angel trumpets - several of the ones i got from Terry & Sylvia have buds hanging - pending opening in next few days - mostly the white ones i believe.

Mimi Carol,
This may answer your question. What's this mysterious "Y " everybody's talking about?

RE: Brugmansia questions

I looked out the kitchen window this morning and saw that another Brug has bloomed! This one has at least twenty white flowers, held more or less horizontally. They are beautiful but have no perfume. The first Brug to bloom, which I think is Charles Grimaldi (yellow, flowers held vertically, very fragrant), also has a large number of flowers on it. Spectacular!
Susan.
