Do not know nothing about them but what I just looked up , it is a very pretty tree, please let us know if it makes it and the pics of the different seasons leaves pic if you can.

planted two different times and lost both of them. gave them a site as suggested for my zone(auburn) in a bright, semi-shaded area but they only lived a couple of years.
i am suspecting the pathogen thing for lack of a better excuse. ;-) got both plants from a nursery in jemison and they were doing fine in black pots on a black tarp in full sun.
the area where i live may have been planted to cotton years ago as it is a neighborhood with an old terrace system still noticeable.
they say this tree fares better farther north of its original habitat in the deep south.

Thanks for the info about the fungus associated with the cotton. A recommended fungicide (Subdue, as I remember) and was advised that a one time application would probably be sufficient. Now to find the stuff....
This tree has bloomed for the past 2 tears in the pot. I will try to send the pic.

Oh, that's gorgeous! I've been wanting a Franlinia for a while now, and now I MUST HAVE ONE.

I'll have to find out if they can be planted in fall. ForestFarm has them for $39, 1 gallon.

That photo is more than enough to make anybody want one! I work part time at a nursery that has a few in a stock house and they are the most stunning purple now!
