Trimming a Meidiland rose

| This rose spreads out tremendously and has taken over a bed of iris and daylilies. I want to trim it back drastically so I can work in the bed, but I do not want to kill the bush. How early can I trim it back without damaging the bush? I am in Gadsden. |

| Many people prune their roses in January. You can remove any complete canes that you do not want any time. |
