You don't say whether the plant will be in sun or shade. There are a few tall upright crepe myrtle varieties, but they might not be that narrow and they do need lots of sun. There are lots of varieties of yews that come in all sorts of shapes and sizes and will generally grow in sun or shade. I have two Hicks variety yews (Taxus x media 'Hicksii') and like them a lot. They can get 8-10' tall and stay 3-4' wide. As I understand it, Hicksii is the female variety and has red berries, and Brownii is the related male variety. Do some checking on yews and you might find something that will work.

Should have mentioned, it's mostly shaded as it's on the northern wall of the house and the house/roof blocks most of the sun. We went ahead and planted a camellia there to match the other two camellias further to the left along another wall of the house. Of course, my OCD is coming out knowing that the two camellias on the left are pink blooms and the new one is white. Hopefully I can deal with it. :)
