Reputable sources say that the sound emitting gadgets do very little but empty your pocketbook.

It's been proven that moles dislike caster oil, and it's one of the ingredients in commercial mole repellents. You can make your own in this two step process:

Blend 6 ounces caster oil and 2 Tablespoons dish soap with one gallon of water to make a concentrate. Then, mix 1 ounce of the concentrate to one gallon of water to spray on your lawn. Spray heavily and reapply after heavy rainfall.

Have you done a 'scout' to see if you have a large grub population?

You can also buy castor oil granules. Never had a mole or gopher problem, but I saw Paul James on "Gardening By The Yard" praising them. He also suggests that moles may actually be good for a yard because they don't eat plants and aerate the soil. Check out his shownotes on HGTV's website.

You may take scant consolation to know they don't eat the plant roots and are devouring your grubs.I have had bean plants die after having their roots disturbed by moles followed by dry weather. I suggest renting a lawn roller and compressing your entire lawn following your next rain. Will re-level your lawn and may kill some of the moles too.

Hmmm, a few years back, my mother gave me something she called a "mole plant." I was later told on GWeb that it was really CASHMERE BOUQUET. It is a highly aromatic plant, and during the years I had them, moles were NOT a problem. I gave them to a couple of friends who had mole problems, and they said the moles disappeared. The plant likes broken shade, and it multiplies quickly. The blooms are a mauve color.

Tell me more about this cashmere bouquet. I always thought it was soap. I have some moles I would like to encourage to move elsewhere.

It's a variety of the old glory bower, Clerodendron bungei. Can be an invasive plant. It's 'said' to repel moles because of the smell.
