Leek germination rates

Looks like something bad happened to my leek seeds, as last year I got 85-90% germination, and this year I'm seeing 50-60% under identical condiions. I know allium seeds are short-lived, but am still a bit surprised.

My question is whether those seedlings that germinated would be at a disadvantage compared to those growing from fresher seed.

i also am going to plant leftover seed, and then more when the fresh order arrives, In the past, when i did this, tho low germination rates, the plants i got did just fine.

Others who have any different experiences out there??
