Yes, you can, but be prepared to encounter the rotting bulb around the base of each plant. It looks and feels yucky, but it's nature's way. Wear rubber gloves and gather a quantity at a time and you'll be good.

Having been through winter, the plants are likely to bunch, bulb or both. Onions have minds of their own sometimes.

Thanks so much! I don't mind the bunching or bulbing, cause I just dice them up throw them in salads and recipes for flavor. I just have hundreds and actually will end up giving some to friends, and I didn't want to give them onions that weren't edible! :)

I was also shocked about how many reseeded, because a lot of them did bolt last year. It was a crazy year for us. So many seasons in just one year.
