Wondering what folks use for nitrogen boost.I have used 21-0-0, but this is not organic.I have also used 5-1-1 fish emulsion, but not sure if this is enough of a boost.Any thoughts on alfalfa meal.

I use blood meal - runs 12-15% N. Soybean meal has about 7% N, which is more than alfalfa meal (~4-5% I believe).

If the N content is low, just use more of it. Blood meal runs from as low as $0.88/lb in the farm country of Virginia to as much as $2.20/lb in NJ.

I have tried several high nitrogen ferts with garlic, and I have found urea to be best.

I use alfalfa meal raked into the top lightly before planting. I have scattered milorganite around in the past, after planting but saw no difference. Of course shortly after planting it turns frigid and there is no growth, but I think I have enough iron in the soil already so it seemed a waste.
