Downy Mildew In Onion Patch

I was inspecting my onion patch today and discovered I have downy mildew in it. I sprayed and I saw the mildew just roll off of the onions and onto the soil. That can't be good! I also noticed that the onions are getting ready to flower. That can't be good either since the bulbs are so small.

Your images don't match with what I find online.

Did you take a sample -- enclosed in a clear container -- to someone knowledgeable for advice/suggestions?
