Walking onions should not have flowers; if they are truly walking onions and there is a "bud" then it would be "bulbules"- top sets that look like tiny shallots or flower bulbs. If that is the case, let these develop and either eat them or plant them to make more walking onions. If you want to eat them as scallions, you'd better harvest them now before the bulbules develop, otherwise they will be very tough and not good for cooking.

Not sure about multiplier onions, though.

I think multiplier onions 'multiply' in the ground like shallots, while the walking onions definitely are a topsetting type.

I agree with you promethan. I had just forgotten that the Egyptian onions have to make seed to have something to fall over.
