Is my garlic damaged? Should I just pull them out?

This is my first year of growing garlic. Unfortunately I did not mulch them and we ended up getting a lot of snow this year. By the time the snow came I thought it was too late to mulch since the ground was already covered in snow. A lot of my garlic leaves are turning spotty and yellowish or the tips are wilted a little. Today I decided to pull a few to see how they are doing and most of the ones I pulled had a mushy clove. Is my crop no good? Should I just pull them to make room for other stuff?

Sorry my initial description was so bad. So when I pulled some out I saw the original clove was mushy and I was able to peel it away. I stupidly thought the original clove stayed and new cloves developed around it. I just looked up some pictures and saw 'green garlic' which is the early stages of garlic with no clove. I guess my garlic might be ok after all?

Don't be so hard on yourself, You weren't born knowing how to ride a bike were ya ? the first couple leaves can die...it isn't the best thing but they are not dead. The sun we are supposed to be getting soon will perk them up and make the new green leaves grow.

Leave them in the ground. These are tough little plants. Worst case scenario, you get something less than expected and some good experience.

I would wait 3-4 weeks and digg around a couple plants (very carefully) to see how they are doing.

It will take some time for the additional bulbs to develop and grow. You should be OK to leave them in the ground.
