Onion Plants Storage & Soil Prep

Hi All,

Let me preface my questions and comments. I have grown onions from sets and seeds for years but this year I thought I would try Dixondale because I was lazy and didn't get my seeds started early enough, set onions are too strong flavored and I've read wonderful comments about Dixondale.

I just received my order from Dixondale Farms. Unfortunately, I won't be able to get them in the ground until probably Sunday. The directions for storage Dixondale gives are "Remove these plants from box immediatly. Store in a cool place."

My questions are:

Should I open each of the bundles and store on a screen or what?

I have to put them in something to store why not the box with the cover cut off?

Also I amended my soil with organic shellfish compost. After reading Dixondale's directions about planting the onions next to but not in the soil with fertilizer, now I'm worried about planting the plants in a soil that has too many nutrients. This is the first year I've done this so... Should I worry?
