Leeks, how did they get there?

We have a field that borders our house. Today I noticed at the bottom of the field, near the roadway there is a huge patch of what appears to be Leeks. I have never grown these before, so I can't imagine how they got there. The bed extends probably 20 feet or more. What appears to be leeks are scattered about in the field grass.

We have been on this property for 10 years, and it's the first we have noticed them.

I checked the Wiki on Leeks, it looks like them. I pulled one, it looks like a Leek.

If somehow when the road was constructed, leeks got moved in the dirt, would they just keep reseeding year after year and make this huge patch?

Thanks for any input.
