Green mold on a few garlic plants

AiliDeSpain

I had one row in my garlic bed that had spindly dying plants. There were four plants in total that looked sad so I decided to pull them. When I did they came out easily and on two of them there was a greenish mold/rot. Does anyone know what this is? My other plants are great, strong and healthy. I planted four different hardneck varieties but don't know which variety this was as my markers used in the fall at planting time disappeared.
Also can I plant something else where the diseased garlic was or is the soil now contaminated?
TIA!!
