Onion Seedling Q

So I planted out some of my onion seedlings (commercial) about a week ago. The next morning about a third of them were out of the ground. I put them back in. Everyday there are some that are back out of the ground. What is doing this? There are lots of worms in the soil. I have never seen voles and we have lots of cats around. Would the birds pull up the onions to find the worms? I'm getting concerned about this problem. Meanwhile it keeps raining and I can't get the rest of the onions in. Thanks for any insight.

Hi Kathy,

I had the same problem last year and posted here for help. Turns out it was the worms pulling the onions out of the ground! It will stop when the onions establish a good root system - about a week in my case. Here is the link for last year's discussion:

Thank you! My neighbor had suggested voles and it just didn't make sense to me. This does. I'll keep replanting them until it stops.
