I saw the posts about how the leaves look when you harvest, sorry.....I guess my main question then is will there be garlic bulbs since I planted in late spring instead of fall?

most likely, yes, there will be cloves. You may not end up with as large of heads as you might like, but they will almost certainly have time to form into cloves. There is nothing wrong with spring planting. You lose some growth time compared to fall planting, but they still grow and do their thing just fine.

Thanks,username! Sounds great, I have them just planted around in different flower beds, mostly lasagna beds....and planted some in with a rose bush, I read that they 'like' each other.

I think alliums in general are very attractive interplanted with other plants. In addition to potential companion planting benefits, they add height in arrangements and containers. And at the end of the season, ya can eat em! ;-)

Kiki, bulb formation is kicked off by day-length. So, providing you got them in the ground early enough for the leaves to develop and collect sunshine (all a bulb is is a plant's way of storing sunshine) you should be fine.

Worst case scenerio is you will get rounders instead of differentiated heads. If this happens, just treat them like very large cloves. That is, cure them, then replant them this fall. Next year you'll have full-sized, fully formed bulbs.

In Zone 6 most garlic varieties are ready to harvest sometime in July.

BTW, stop beating up on yourself. Everybody has to start sometime, and we learn more from our mistakes.

I see what you mean by 'rounders', now. Singles or one large clove, right? I had seen that in another post and didn't know what it meant! Thanks, y'all!

That's correct. Think in terms of white marbles and you'll get a better mental picture of what rounders are like.
