'Found' garlic, what to expect

| I was going through the cabinet last weekend and came across a bulb of garlic with shoots coming out of most of the cloves. I'd normally throw this out, but decided to try growing it. Now a week later, I have 8 garlic plants about 7" tall. I know that garlic is usually planted in the Fall, but what can I expect from these plants?
Will there be bulbs at all come harvest time? Any chance there will be actual usable garlic this year? Could I just leave it in the ground until next year and harvest then?
If it turns out, it will be pretty cool. To get some good garlic out of something that would have been garbage is awesome. |

| this late in the season you'll be lucky if it grows much of a root system to feed itself. It will do something, maybe not make a bulb but will most likely make a single round or ball that you can eat or replant this fall. dig it up when there are three green leaves left on the plant and hang it for a month in a shady spot with a little air flow. |

| If I was going to replant it, would I pull it and dry it first? Then replant in Fall? |
