Dividing Alliums

I have recently become interested in alliums and have a couple of questions. My "Globemaster" Allium bloomed beautifully last year and I read that you should let it form seeds and leave it alone which I did. This year the globes were smaller (still big but smaller than last year) and there were two of them (not one). I would like to divide it and move one now but read somewhere that they don't like to be moved. I really don't want to take a chance on losing it due to the cost but if they aren't totally temperamental I'd like to try it. Anyone have any words of wisdom out there? Also, does anyone know if the seeds are sterile? I've read that some people have them popping up everywhere and others say they are sterile. I'd love to have them all over my garden!

Check out the Bulbs Forum. There's a thread entitled "A Very Allium Spring" that will answer your question about dividing. I'm going to try it this year, but like you said, because of the cost, I don't want to screw anything up.
