Where to cure...

This is the first year I am growing garlic, onions and shallots. The shallots look like they are going to be ready to go soon and the garlic not too far after them. So I have started thinking about how to cure them.

We rent a 400sqft apartment with no garage or porch. The basement is a stone foundation from the 1700s so it is way too damp pretty much all the time (can't even go down there without shoes on or your socks will be wet!). The driveway gets full sun all day, we have no picnic table to put them under and we lost our one and only shade tree to Hurricane Irene. We have a tree line with a little bit of afternoon shade (maybe three hours or so).

Also, to be clear, should I dry them in full sun for a day and then move them out of the sun? I work eleven hour days - what if it is forecasted to start raining while I'm at work? Sometimes all the information out there can get overwhelming and confusing. Thanks!!!
