Onion report

I planted ~320 onions (9 different varieties) ordered from Dixondale. They all seem to be doing well and starting to bulb up some. This is my first time growing onions and I am pleased with how they are doing. I will give a more complete report on how each of the varieties have grown in my raised bed. FYI, i planted them 3-4 inches apart in rows 6 inches apart - and have harvested many to thin the ones planted closer together).

This picture is from several weeks ago... plants have grown much since then.

It'll be interesting to see how they do. The spacing looks really tight to me, but depending on the fertility and moisture, they still may size up.

We planted ~300 onions in a 4&1/2 foot x 10&1/2 foot bed. the onions are spaced every 3-4 inches in a row with rows 6 inches apart. My intention was to pull every other one as green onions and we have harvested many, but not 1/2 of what was planted. Most are starting to bulb well, but others are still "small" in regard to the others.

I have already thought that for next year I would allow a little more space for bulbing/storage onions and just plant an area more closely for green onions.

Btw, I have not fertalized these onions at all as the raised bed is 50% compost.
