Using grocery store garlic to companion plant

I'm late getting my garden in and its way too late to plant garlic (zone 5b and its June 21). I have some grocery store garlic that's sprouted, can I plant it beside my tomato plants to help repel pests? Also can you eat garlic shoots the way you eat onion shoots.

Plant them, they will grow. This is an odd time of year to be planting them but since you only want the greens and maybe help out with the bugs I don't see a problem with it.

Be sure you dig them up each year and don't let them get away from you or you'll have a garlic farm!
