8 hours is no problem. Put them in a loose plastic bag and toss into a cooler if it's a hot day. They keep for weeks in the fridge so keep some for yourself at home. :-)

Like all green veggies, though, do not put them directly against ice while in the cooler. That can harm them.

What we do is keep a crisper tray that fits in our cooler. Veggies, in their bags, go into it to assure that they do not touch the ice nor sit in water.

Other than that you should have no problems. Scapes, packaged as Colleen suggests, keep in the fridge two days longer than forever.

I have one from last year, still looking good, in the vegetable crisper of my fridge.
