Are they dead or will they still grow

NEW GARDENER-My parents gave me (50) allium bulbs that they purchased in the fall( but never planted)They have been in the house in a cool basement in a paper bag. Some are starting to sprout (not sure if that is the term)-some are going bad. It is early spring here and just wondering if they can be planted now. I realize that I won't get any flowers this year from these bulbs...just wondering if they can be planted now? Will they rot in the ground if I plant them now and how do you tell if the bulbs are still living bulbs? Any help would be greatly appreciated for this new gardener!

Keep them cool, dry, and the cloves together. Plant them in the fall. It is OK if they started to sprout.

You might even put them in the refrigerator until the fall, like I am doing with some...
