I am in zone-5 Albany, NY. My Garlic stems/leaves are still green and I have what appears to be flower/seed pods on the top of each plant. Do I cut off the pods; or dig up the garlic now; or wait until the flowers die. I am new to growing garlic/allium and everything says to wait until the leaves turn brown?? thanks for your help.

It may be too late but I'd cut off the garlic scapes (your flower / seed pods) now - at least if they've started to curl. I'm about 60 miles south of you and I cut my scapes a couple of weeks ago. Very soon, the leaves will start to die from the bottom up ... each leaf represents a wrapper on the garlic head so you'll want to start digging when there are 4 or so green leaves left. If all the leaves are brown when you harvest, the head will have no protection and fall apart as you lift it. Depending on the variety that you're growing, I'd guess that you have 2 to 4 weeks before the garlic is ready to come out of the ground and get hung up somewhere shady, well ventilated and dry to cure.
