will my cippolini onions form bulbs if i plant them this year?

I just ordered cippolini onion seeds from shepherds thinking I would harvest tiny little onions this fall. Then I found a reference in one of my books saying cippolini are long day onions. Does this mean I should wait till next year to plant the seeds? I definitely won't get any bulbing action this fall?

It seems to me like you have to wait. Long-day types are usually planted in very early spring. Maybe you could experiment, plant some now, and at least get green onions. Maureen
