Hi all,

I am preparing for my first onion harvest. I see both red and white onion bulbs raising about a third above ground, looking mature already. We have another week of rain coming - and it does not look like tops are going to fall over anytime soon.

Should I begin harvesting now, or will they be bigger and better if mulched until green tops fall over? If so, I'd rather wait.

fyi, I cut scapes as soon as they appeared,

and slugs ate the first set of outer leaves.

i have added compost occaisionally, but these big guys

push thru and seem to want to show off their progress!
