Scapes damaged by storms

Posted by sandyinva 7A (My Page) on

This was my first year growing garlic; a lot of my plants have had their scapes bent by winds from strong thunderstorms. I did dig up one head today that had browned scapes, and it definitely could have waited. Can/should I cut back scapes or just leave them alone until sometime next month?

Thanks in advance,

Sandy

i thought we are all supposed to remove the scapes so the bulbs can develop bigger.... is there some other technique you r using involving keeping the scapes?

I am so glad you said that; I was confused by that as some sources said remove them, others said no. I also wondered that if you removed them, then they won't be there to turn burn. Do they grow back?
