chesnok garlic

I planted this garlic in the fall. by now I was expecting a flower, but the plants look like...well swans, theres a middle stalk that came up but bent over with a swelled part at the end. Is this what it should look like?

This was taken over a week ago. I havent watered them in oh almost a month. We have had some rain this past week though.

That is exactly what hardneck garlic does. Garlic doesn't make seed, it makes little bulbils. You're doing just fine.

The curlique stalks are called garlic scapes, and they're edible. When they make one curlique, cut them off near where they join the plant. They have a mild garlic flavor. I've been eating mine for a week. I cut them like scallions or string beans and steam them with some carrots or broccoli. Tasty, and full of all sorts of phytonutrients, too, I'm sure.

From what I understand, cutting off the garlic scapes helps the plant focus all its energy on the bulb rather than the stalk.
