Biggest thing you need to remember about onions is that leaves = onion. More leaves = bigger onion.

Onions are leaves that make roots....not roots that make leaves. Give them lots of fertilizer, plant shallow and at the right time and space properly.

Then stand back.

Oh yeah......use small plants. Smaller than a #2 pencil. Big plants bolt if it gets cold because they are too mature.

FYI....it's just the opposite for garlic. Plant big cloves for big cloves.

I use to live in the farm with different kinds of plants and animals. Growing of onions is one of their source of income.
