Strange looking Stalks

I planted some multiplier Onions which are growing nicely apart from a few that have formed strange looking Stalks which have swelled in the middle like a partially blown up baloon,which are hollow in the bulge.Any ideas as to why and what is happening here?

Nothing to be alarmed about. That is a flower stalk.
