garlic after onions, and vice versa?

Now that it is coming towards "almost" harvest time for onions and will "soon" be time to plant garlic, iam curious as to the feasability of palnting garlic in the same bed/space where i have onions now? There doesn't seem to be any obvious insect, or worm, or disease problems presently, the onions have done fairly well and i think it would be a great spot for garlic. it gets a lot of sun! Part of that same bed has been planted in tomatoes also, and i would plan on using that area as well for garlic. Any thoughts, either way?

crop rotation. you deplete the nutrients from the soil especially when you plant the same thing or from the same family in the same spot. they are both alliums and would require the same nutrients, have similar pest and soil disease problems. i think you are asking for trouble. can you, yes. is it wise, no. tom

Thanks Tom, I was "sort of" thinking along those same lines, thanks for helping me decide, NOT to do it!
