Check out Gourmet Garlic Gardens. I ordered from there a couple of years ago and I ordered the northern sampler. I've since pared down to Chesnok Red and Georgia Crystal. I like garlic with fewer, larger cloves.

I have luck with kllanery red. I had better luck with that than chesnok red.

I'm north of you in sounthern WI. Growing German Extra Hardy, Russian Giant and Persian Star, plus a few unnamed varieties that I have collected over the years.

I tried several of the hardneck types but they are too hot for my taste. I prefer the mild taste and large size of elephant garlic. I bought them at the grocery, planted them, and they did fine in zone 5. That said, I am a lazy cook and am back to the jar of garlic that is diced and ready to go!
