Walla Walla- is this curious or even of interest?

Walla Walla starts from HD in April. We've had a couple of weeks of highs in the 90s and they are starting to produce the buds that become blossoms (There is a handy term for this but I cannot find it.) Is this to be expected?

We eat them now, anyway.

They are bolting. There's lots of reasons for it. Use the onions that are bolting first as they don't store well. Ideally, they shouldn't be flowering. When you say you planted starts, do you mean sets (little onion bulbs) or plants that were already growing?
