Walking Onions, which is which??????

Ok, cleaning up my onion and garlic patch, and my walking onions did not do a real good job of sending up walkers. My fault probably, not enough water.

But the few that are there, without pics, can someone identify them for me. One set send the shoot out the middle and to the top, the other one sends out a side shoot. You know, one of those think ones.

One is probably white, forgot the names, I thought I at one time had red too, the bottoms of some are reddish.

Did you give you enough info for you to identify which is which?

I would like to keep them seperated. Also, if you just leave some in the ground, without pulling them and dividing then, will they just keep on growing, just a thicker base?

Thanks!

Kathy

RE: Walking Onions, which is which??????

Kathy, I can't help with description but I can tell you there was a guy in our little town paper last week that left his onions in the ground and they were the size of softballs. They were hugh, he said they had been growing for a year. I am sure he meant just left in the ground over winter season.

I am leaving mine in their home until next season just to see what I can get, and they do like to be watered, but don't like to sit in water. They need good drainage.

:) Fran
