Monster Uni-garlic?

I harvested my Romanian Red garlic two weeks ago and it has been drying outside in the warm weather. One of them caught my eye since it looked rather odd from the rest. The stem seemed soft and the skin leathery instead of papery. It felt a bit moister when I picked up and I immediately suspected fungus or rot. When I peeled back the still moist outside layers I found inside one giant garlic clove. It looked like a naked tulip bulb. Somewhat smaller that then other garlic bulbs, but not very much so:

I though maybe it was harvested too soon and hadn't time to divide properly. I sliced it open and found no evidence of division:

Is this a normal occurrence? I've never seen it before. Is there a name for it? One way or the other, it gets eaten tonight.
