When to replant multiplying onions?

Last year a man gave me about 8 or 10 multiplying onions, he didn't give me much info and no name for them. Now, the stems are turning brown and falling over. I have many small ones that were mainly just above ground level and many nice sized ones for storing. I am saving the small ones to replant. He had told me he harvested in August and planted in October. Since these seem to have matured this early, should I still wait until October to replant? BTW, a few of them have formed little bulbs at the top of a large stem...I am leaving them alone and see if they will get a little bigger...they are about the size of a pea right now.

Thanks, Susan
