What should I plant in the bed where the garlic has been harvested?

I'm in Northern Michigan. What will have time to feed us?

I follow up with brassicas and/or bush beans.

This year it's kohl rabi (Purple Vienna), and a six-week bean called Bailey's.

I tried an experiment this year, and started watermelons indoors. These were transplanted between the alliums rows. They're doing pretty good, right now, and if this works I might continue that way in the future.

I am just below you in north-east Wisconsin. Just harvested my garlic also, and am planting peas in their place. They will replace some of the N used by the garlic, and will mature in time to be turned under in the fall.
