Red Onions

This is my first backyard garden and I have so many questions.

What I was wondering about is when is the right time to harvest red onions?

In my garden you can see the red tops and quite a bit of the green has fallen over. I noticed one that had lost all it's greens and pulled it from the ground. It was small and mushy.

I read a few other posts trying to find some help and noticed there are several more things I need to know about growing. Now I need to learn about the right time to harvest and how to cure them =)

Any help to keep me on the right track would be greatly appreciated.

bulb onions - per each variety when 25% of the plants are starting to tip over gently push all that variety over using the back of a bow rake. wait about 3-5 days then pull. leave them dry in place for another few days then move them to a dry place to cure for storage about 4-6 weeks.
