Onions need to be thoroughly dry before you put them into storage. After you have trimmed to tops and the roots, let them dry (out of the sun) until you can't feel any moisture where the tops were cut. This, and storage in a cool, dry place should minimize any mold problems.

Unfortunately Spanish onions are not known as long keepers and, unless they are dried or frozen, have a short storage life.

Just because some of your onions didn't get big doesn't meant they won't store as well as the large ones. But, as wolverine said, they don't store very long, for me, till about December.

Okay, thanks. If I freeze them, do I have to let them dry at all? I had frozen some already by pulling them, cleaning them, chopping them, and putting them right into the freezer. Is this right?

Kim You don't have to dry them before you freeze them. Ya did it right!!!! YOPPER

Keep in mind that freezing onions takes the crispness out and that's what you really want with sweet onions like Spanish that are normally served raw.
