Questions about drying onions after harvest

Posted by egganddart49 5 NY Hudson Valley (My Page) on

Hi, I'm planning to dry my onions on a raised screen outside. My understanding is that' it'll take a week or two. What if it rains? Should I take the screen in so they don't get wet? Should they be in the sun or shade? Is drying them indoors better? What kind of conditions -- cool, moist, dry, warm?

Thank you.

don't do it in the sun. also you really should be in a garage or shed you do not want them being rained on or exposed to the dampness at night. dry is important and warm is good. i dry mine for 4-6 weeks for storage not a week or 2.
