bunching onions dividing in the middle of/late summer?

So for the last week and a half or so, we had pretty cool and damp weather here in Seattle (like 65-70 during the day, 54 at night). And now this week it is in the high 80s during the daytime with lots of sunshine. I noticed that my evergreen bunching onions are starting to split! I am surprised; I had thought they only did that after overwintering or something.

So, does this just mean that the plants are doing fine, or might it mean they are distressed somehow? The greens started to look a little dull, but they look like they are in pretty good shape, standing up straight and lots of leaves.
