Local vs. Imported

I posted this on the Market Gardener forum but thought the insight here would be valuable since it discusses garlic in particular.
I happened on a discussion on another forum about the cost of Local produce and the low prices of imported.
I battle this every day with my garlic.
Has anyone else discussed this?
It is ironic that I had this problem with a local marketer over my garlic. She said it won't sell because the Chinese can sell it cheaper. She was right. Even Christopher Ranch has sold out. I'd love your input.

RE: Local vs. Imported

there is always someone willing to undercut you, and consumers buy on price in this country.

for every whole foods customer, there's 250 people buying from the try-n-save.
